Low carbohydrate diets have become very popular, and are often thought of as the ‘quick fix’ for weight loss and a slim figure. Oh how wrong we are: with no carbohydrate, the body cannot use fats completely. The products of incomplete fat metabolism, called keytones, accumulate in the blood and make it extremely acidic. Homeostasis is then thrown out of balance and stimulates urine production as your body tries to rid itself of the keytones. So, a reason why these diets seem so ‘successful’ is because you’re loosing much of the ‘weight’ (mostly water weight) due to urinating.
Overall, you need carbohydrates for fuel so don’t feel guilty if you want some pasta or whole wheat bread. Remember to include lots of whole grains in your diet, and skip out on the ‘white’ grains. This can help weight loss too! P
Please stay away from the Atkins and the Zone diets as they will not help you to remain slim long-term, and can have very hazerdous effects on your body!
