Kashi Truly Vanilla Oatmeal

1 Tbsp Honey

1/4 cup of Raspberries

Hint of Vanilla extract

Preparation

Add some water to the oatmeal (~1/2 cup) along with the vanilla extract in a microwaveable bowl. Warm up in the microwave for about 1 min- 1min 15 sec.  Stir the contents in the bowl then add the raspberries and honey, and continue to stir until you’ve reached consistency.  Eat, and enjoy!

Pep-Talk

Hey guys,

It’s so hard to keep our goals in sight around this time of year (the Valentine’s day candy goes on sale tomorrow at Walgreens..eek!).  Remember you can do it-you’ve stuck through this much!  Soon you’re going to begin seeing changes in your body, health, and overall outlook on life.  This is where the true test will come: to stick with making a healthy/fit lifestyle choice, or to go back down the slippery slope of temptation and lethargy.  Remember that becoming healthy and fit is a LIFESTYLE change.  You must keep going to the gym and eating well.  It’s not easy!  There are a lot of days when I’d rather not go to the SHELL/SERF and just cuddle up in my bed and watch a movie, or reach for the last brownie in the apartment.  Just remember not to give up what you ultimately want for what you want right now.  You CAN do it, and if you’re truly committed, you WILL do it and succeed.  I believe in you, and you need to believe in yourself too.  My dad always told me that nothing worth having is easily obtained, and he’s right.  All of your commitment and dedication is worth it, and makes becoming fit and healthy that much more satisfying knowing that you’ve been working your butt off for it.  Don’t forget, you’ve made it this far, you can keep going :)

Why Low-Carb Diets are Dangerous!

Low carbohydrate diets have become very popular, and are often thought of as the ‘quick fix’ for weight loss and a slim figure.  Oh how wrong we are: with no carbohydrate, the body cannot use fats completely.  The products of incomplete fat metabolism, called keytones, accumulate in the blood and make it extremely acidic.  Homeostasis is then thrown out of balance and stimulates urine production as your body tries to rid itself of the keytones.  So, a reason why these diets seem so ‘successful’ is because you’re loosing much of the ‘weight’ (mostly water weight) due to urinating.  

Overall, you need carbohydrates for fuel so don’t feel guilty if you want some pasta or whole wheat bread.  Remember to include lots of whole grains in your diet, and skip out on the ‘white’ grains.  This can help weight loss too!  P

Please stay away from the Atkins and the Zone diets as they will not help you to remain slim long-term, and can have very hazerdous effects on your body!

Delicious Lunch

Turkey, Mozzarella, Lettuce Wraps (3 individual wraps, ~150kcal total)

-Oscar Meyer Oven Roasted Turkey slices

-Dijon Mustard

-Shredded Mozzarella cheese

-some Romaine lettuce

Spread the mustard onto the turkey slice, then sprinkle some mozzarella cheese in the middle.  Add some lettuce on top of the cheese, fold the delicious confection like a taco, and eat!

Also add some Sweet Potato Chips and Salsa for a yummy side :)
